We all want our children to get to school safely. How about adding in a little fun and a little fresh air? The SLO Safe Routes to School program helps get families out of cars and onto bikes or into walking groups. Children arrive at school invigorated and our air stays cleaner, too.
Our group operates with the cooperation and support of the following agencies- City of SLO
- SLO Regional Rideshare
- SLO County Air Pollution Control District
- SLO Police Dept
- League of American Bicyclists Cycling Educators
- San Luis Obispo Bicycle Coalition
- School Staff Members
- Parents of Students
Hawthorne Elementary is the first school in the City of SLO to start a Safe Routes program. (Thanks to Principal Kirt Collins, parents and community volunteers for their enthusiastic support!)
