Hawthorne's first Safe Routes to School day was a great success! According to figures compiled by Mr. Collins and Mrs. Grady, 61% of Hawthorne's students arrived in walking or biking groups, used carpools, rode skateboards or scooters, or rode the bus. The number of cars dropping off students was greatly reduced.
The Safe Routes kids had a great time. Excitement was in the air as Mr. Collins and Peggy Mandeville from the City of SLO handed out Safe Routes buttons and chart jewels to participants. So many students participated, Mr. Collins had to go inside to get more buttons and jewels!
We are so proud of our Safe Routes team!!
Hawthorne Eagles, you are the best!
